CINAHL Searching: Limiting Your Results

Our Search So Far

Below is our search so far. The search has yielded a large number of results (see S17). That's a few too many to deal with, so how can we reduce what we have, to make the search more manageable? Use LIMITS.

Where Do I Find the Limits?

You can find basic limits on the left of your page, underneath your search. Choose the 'Show More' link to find out what other limits are available.

What Limits Are Useful?

Once you have clicked on the 'Show More' link, you can choose the limits that you think will give you the best results. Common limits include English language, peer reviewed, research articles, a date range, genders or age groups. Scroll down the page to see all the limits available. Once you have made your selection(s), click on the gray 'Search' button near the top right of the limits page.

Our Search With Limits

Here's what our search results look like with some search limits; English language, research articles, with publication dates from 2011 until 2016. You'll see that the number of results have dropped significantly, which makes looking through them a lot less daunting.
