Claim your name: researcher IDs and profiles

Funders and publishers increasingly require author identifiers, such as ORCID iDs. These come with profiles that can be edited to varying degrees. Setting up and maintaining IDs and profiles can:

  • Connect you to your research outputs and eliminate name ambiguity
  • Improve the discoverability of your work
  • Link your outputs across multiple platforms
  • Allow you to find collaborators
  • Give you access to citation metrics

Get started: online presence checklist

To help you get started, download the library's Online Presence Checklist. We have selected key profiles and networking sites that you might want to engage with. Use this checklist to help enhance your online presence and reach a wider audience. Depending how much time you can invest, make your online profiles "good", "better", or the "best" they can be.

Engage with your community: networks & social media

Joining a researcher network or social media platform can help you:

  • Develop ideas and exchange information
  • Connect your work with others in your field
  • Publish research findings
  • Improve the discoverability of your work
  • Find collaborators and allows them to follow you
  • Disseminate your research beyond academia

If you require further help with your online profiles, contact your librarian at your campus library. Please note, while we can assist you with researcher IDs and profiles such as ORCID, Scopus Author ID, Web of Science ResearcherID, and Google Scholar Profiles, the library does not support the setting up or maintenance of academic network or social media accounts; this is the responsibility of the individual staff member or student.
