Research impact is an evolving topic and has a variety of pathways and outcomes. In order to support researchers achieve impactful research the Research Impact Framework was developed and launched in 2022. Vision 2040 and Pae Tata outline Otago’s aim to create impactful research. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise Professor Richard Blaikie articulates “Our research endeavours should have a line of sight to their impact on social wellbeing, environmental and sustainability challenges, with a view to leveraging our national and international partnerships to achieve outcomes”.
Planning, demonstrating, tracking and communicating research impact and outcomes is becoming increasingly important in the research environment, particularly the impact of research outside of academia, the real-world impact. Professor Blaikie states “In an increasingly competitive research funding environment, agencies are focused on demonstrating that their investments in university research are translating into tangible benefits beyond academia”. This guide showcases research impact resources, example pathways and case studies, and the support available at Otago, alongside key resources from around the world.
