CINAHL Searching: Selecting References For Email and EndNote

How Do I Select References?

As you are going through your search results, you will see references that look like they will be relevant for your topic, so you will want to select them. To do this, click on the small blue folder icon to the right of the article. You'll notice in the example below that once the blue icon has been clicked, it changes to a yellow folder, which means you've selected it, and it's gone into your 'Folder'.

What Can I Do With My Selected References?

Once you have selected your references, you can go to your 'Folder' and:

  • Email them
  • Print them out
  • Export them to EndNote, or other reference management software

We'll look at emailing them and exporting them to EndNote.

You will find your folder at the top right of the page; it looks like this:

To email all your selected references:

  • Go to your folder
  • Click in the box next to 'Select/deselect all'; this will automatically tick all the articles in your folder
  • On the right of the page, choose 'Email' from the icons available
  • Fill in your email address in the 'E-mail to' section
  • Include a meaningful subject line
  • Change the 'Citation Format' if you wish
  • Click on the yellow 'Send' button

Note that if any of the articles include a PDF, they will be emailed as a separate attachment.

To export all your selected references to EndNote:

  • Go to your folder
  • Click in the box next to 'Select/deselect all'; this will automatically tick all the articles in your folder
  • On the right of the page, choose 'Export' from the icons available
  • The radio button defaults to 'Direct export in RIS format'....etc; leave it there

  • Click on the small grey 'Save' button on the left of the page
