Strategic Publishing: Otago Open Access Publishing Agreements

Publish Open Access without APC

  • The University of Otago is part of the CAUL consortium (Council of Australasian University Librarians), which negotiates most Read and Publish Agreements on behalf of the University Library and the broader sector. These agreements bundle Article Processing Charges ("Publish") and library subscription fees ("Read") into a single, university-wide agreement with each publisher.
  • From January 2025, Otago-affiliated researchers will be able to take advantage of the CAUL R&P Agreements and the Otago direct Open Access Agreements to publish Otago research and scholarly articles direct to Open Access with no transactional APC, within over 9500 journals from 19 publishers

2025 Otago OA Publishing Agreements: Journal Publishers

As part of these 2025 agreements, Otago pays for the subscription to access or read journal articles, while at the same time ensuring Otago researchers, academics and students can publish within selected journals as open access. Agreements have been reached with the following 19 publishers.

Check the link to each publisher below for specific instructions, terms and conditions regarding the read and publish agreements.

Titles in purple denote inclusion of Hybrid and Gold OA titles.

The dagger † denotes capped agreements, which permit a limited number of articles to be published per year (first in, first serve). Once the allowance is used, authors of additional articles may choose to publish as closed access or pay for an article processing charge for the article to be published open access.

The double dagger ‡ represents that the agreements with this publisher are based on Otago direct Open Access Agreements, while the majority are sitting under CAUL Read and Publish Agreements.

We update these agreements (i.e. the list of publishers and titles, as well as the specific terms for each publisher) on an annual basis.
