Southern PHO and participating public libraries in the Otago, Central, Waitaki and Southland areas have joined together to offer the Books on Prescription programme.
GPs or other health professional in the programme may prescribe a book to a patient that addresses a particular problem. The patient then borrows the book from their local library.Students may encounter the scheme while on clinical placement in the community.
The University of Otago Health Sciences Library holds a collection of these books for the teaching, learning and wellbeing of staff and students.
