Day 1: Claim Your Profiles

Claim your Researcher Profiles

Challenge: Register for an ORCID ID and set up at least one Researcher Profile.

Why: Researcher profiles allow you to showcase your work and connect with potential collaborators.

WhyORCID iD (Open Researcher & Contributor ID) is a requirement by many publishers and research funders.

Find out more about ORCID here:

Challenge: Register for an ORCID iD  (or link an existing ORCiD iD at the New Zealand ORCID hub).  https://www.otago.ac.nz/library/orcid-at-otago  This will verify your affiliation with Otago, which adds credibility to your profile.

Why: Author profiles in databases are important because they provide you with research metrics.

In Scopus, you are automatically assigned a Scopus Author ID when you publish in a journal indexed by Scopus.  Your Scopus Author ID comes with its own profile.  This is where you can access your H index and other research metrics.

Challenge: Go to Scopus on the Library’s database page.  Check to see if you have a Scopus Author ID by: searching for your name in Scopus (click on the Authors tab above the search box)

Why: Author profiles in databases are important because they provide you with research metrics. Web of Science has its own Researcher ID.  As well as researcher metrics, you can showcase your editing and peer review work.

Challenge: Go to Web of Science (Core Collection) on the Library database page.  Register to set up a Researcher ID and Web of Science Researcher Profile, or click on the person iconA blue and black circle with a sad face
