It includes public domain and licensed recordings to allow for study by ear. The project, which uses MediaWiki software, has uploaded more than 495,000 scores and 59,000 recordings of more than 152,000 works by 18,000 composers.

The database covers a diverse range of genres including choral works, symphonies, operas, and the avant-garde, with over 600,000 pages of scores and manuscripts, including works by Bach, Schubert, Mozart, Handel, Beethoven, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin and more.

Music manuscripts are listed in the online database of the Répertoire International des Sources Musicales. Currently, this data gets enriched, edited, and updated regularly. (Bach)

Harvard Library holds a rich collection of first and early editions and manuscript copies of the musical works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The purpose of this guide is both to alert Mozart scholars to these significant resources and also to gather together in one list items housed in several locations within the Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library and Houghton Library.

The Bach Archive owns a comprehensive collection of musical sources to works of J. S. Bach and his family in the form of paper copies and microfilms. These sources are recorded in the musicological database Bach Digital.

The Bach Archive includes researching the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach and the widely ramified Thuringian-Saxon family of musicians from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

The BMEO was established in 1987 to serve as an incentive for the development of Harvard as a center of Mozart research. The collection was assembled by Dr. Eric Offenbacher over nearly 40 years. It includes two Mozart autograph manuscripts and an autograph letter by his son Karl, all held at Houghton Library. It also includes nearly 100 first editions of Mozart's instrumental music and operas, most of them printed before 1800. (Digitally online)

The music prints (about 130,000) mainly tell the Austrian history of music. Original manuscripts by Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Anton Bruckner, Richard Strauss, Alban Berg and many others.

In order to give today’s performers an opportunity to study and try out variations and embellishments common in Schubert’s day, embellished versions and marked-up compositions are included in the appendix to the musical volume in question, provided that they originated in Schubert’s circle and thus at least purportedly bear his sanction.

The project’s chief aim was to create an online resource uniting all of the first impressions of Chopin’s first editions in an unprecedented virtual collection, thereby providing direct access to musicians and musicologists to some of the most important primary source materials relevant to the composer’s music.
