This is a workshop hosted by HEDC and run by subject librarians several times a year.

Find out which topics, online resources and techniques subject librarians use to foster a community of practice toolkit for your doctoral students at Otago. Keep current and aware of best-practice initiatives and strategies in areas such as the literature review, data management, reference management, getting published, increasing research impact and researcher profiles.

Workshop outline

HEDC, in conjunction with Graduate Research School, run workshops for supervisors including:

• Building a positive relationship with postgraduate students

• Recruiting postgraduate students

• Assisting postgraduate students to write

• Providing quality postgraduate supervision

• Doctoral supervision: the early phase

• Assisting students to engage with the literature

• Helping postgraduate students to read and write critically (for Sciences & Health Sciences postgraduate supervisors)

• Examining a doctoral thesis

• Preparing postgraduate students for the oral examination
