Te Kāhui Māngai: Directory of Iwi and Māori Organisations
(The Ngāi Tahu Cultural Mapping Project) is dedicated to recording and mapping the traditional Māori place names and associated histories in the Ngāi Tahu rohe.
Our aim must be to control and shape our own tribal culture to the greatest extent possible. If it is to be ours, we must own it. We must be the primary proprietors of our own knowledge base.
Kareao is an apt metaphor for the website which leads from one point to another, linking, connecting, and ultimately taking explorers in myriad directions of discovery.
