Department of Languages and Culture: ResearchReady

The ResearchReady modules have been created for first year students

Overall Goal: To provide new students an introduction to the understanding of, and the skills for, finding information at university level.

Students will gain a basic understanding of the following research concepts by completing the four ResearchReady modules:

  • The location of the physical libraries and basic services which are on offer.
  • The concept of popular vs scholarly publishing.
  • The use of information beyond a given reading list adds credibility to an assignment.
  • Basic research tools, including the Library homepage, Library Search | Ketu, and ProQuest Central.
  • The relevance and appropriateness of different information sources for different purposes.
  • The basics of effective keyword searching.
  • The ethical use of information (e.g. University Guide to Academic Integrity).

The modules include a variety of videos and interactive resources to learn about the library resources and services, improve research skills and learn about academic integrity.

We recommend completing the modules on a computer or laptop using either a Chrome, Firefox or Edge browser (not Safari).
