Which browsers do you support?
The site supports the latest version of all modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari), however make sure you have JavaScript enabled. Here are instructions to enabling JavaScript in your browser.

Direct export from Google Scholar
Google Scholar can export references to EndNote only one at a time. It will not include abstracts and keywords.
First, set Google Scholar to talk to EndNote. You need to do this only once.
Go to Google Scholar
Click Settings
Scroll down to Bibliography Manager
Choose Show links to import into and EndNote from the drop-down list
Click Save
Now when you search Google Scholar, your results show Import into EndNote below the citation.
To import a reference, click Import into EndNote
Depending on your browser (Firefox, Chrome, IE etc) you may get a pop up box, or a downloaded file to click.
In Firefox, for example
Click Open in the pop-up box
You may be asked to Select a reference library.
It now appears in Imported References until you add something else. You can find it again in the All References list.
Direct export from databases
You can quickly download article citations from Ovid databases like Medline and Embase.
Please refer to library guide 'Exporting references to EndNote' for more information.

Direct export from PubMed
First, open your EndNote library.
In PubMed click the check box next to each reference you want from your results list.
Click Send to
Select Citation manager and Create file.
The imported references will display in your library.
The articles now appear in Imported References until you add something else. You can find them again in the All References list.
Reference from a PDF
Save the PDF to your computer.
In EndNote click the Import icon OR select File > Import.
In the pop-up box
For Import file choose the saved PDF
From the Import option drop down list choose PDF
Click Import.
Import multiple PDFs by storing the PDFs in one folder on your computer.
Go to EndNote, select File > Import > Folder
Select the folder with your PDFs
choose PDF as the Import Option and click on Import.
Do this for references on webpages that you cannot download from a catalogue or database.
Click on the New Reference icon, or
select References > New Reference from the toolbar.
The Reference Type defaults to Journal Article. Change it by selecting from the drop-down menu.
Add citation details into the appropriate fields. You may have the author, title, journal title, abstract, or similar. Check our guidance on author names and be sure you enter them correctly.
Use the Research Notes field to add your own comments.
Use Tab to move between fields. Shift +Tab will move you back one field.
Close the record to save it File > Close reference.
A complete citation helps readers find the publication again.
These screenshots show you the minimum information you need for citations. Be sure to check the Reference type is correct.
An abstract is not needed for a citation, but you will find them really useful to have.

A DOI is like a unique address for an online article or other online material. Get the DOI when you can.
