Capability Framework [V1]: Research Data tasks

Supporting researcher-facing librarians to successfully deliver inside-out services and support.

Research Data Management Capabilities

This example is based on data collected during the building of the framework.  It illustrates how capabilities can be mapped to Research Data Management tasks at different levels.  Learn more about how the data was collected and analysed on the Methodology page.

Naomi works with researchers who require research data management plans to met funder requirements.  They help researchers select an appropriate Data Management Planning tool and explain any fields that the researcher is unsure of.

Naomi  also helps researchers understand and met publisher requirements.

Naomi finds that the needs of each researcher varies according to the discipline and what they define as data.  Naomi  spends a lot of time talking to researchers, information technology staff, research advisors, and other key services, to better understand the options and support available.

Naomi  helps researchers identify the best repository for their data and is familiar with many discipline specific metadata standards.

Naomi manages the University data management planning tool and data repository.  They work closely with ITS to deliver this service.  ITS requires a DMP as part of the procurement and storage process.

Naomi  keeps abreast of any developments in this area, especially the establishment of Machine Readable DMPs, and new platforms that support the management of research data throughout the research lifecycle.

Naomi  provides support on metadata ensuring that data is described for discoverability and reusability.
