LibGuides: Capability Framework [V1]: Word Frequency Highlights

These word frequency clouds have been created from the three main data sources:

1. The spreadsheet designed to support the mapping of tasks performed by researcher-facing librarians working with inside-out services.

2. Developing a Researcher-Facing Librarian Capability Framework Workshop held at IATUL conference 2019.

3. Text in job descriptions describing tasks, associated competencies, and expertise levels, extracted for analysis.

Size of words do correlate to frequency.

From the main data source, the spreadsheets, communication was mentioned more times than any other knowledge, skill, ability, or attribute.

The IATUL workshop asked participates not just consider the current environment but to crystal ball gaze into the near future and predict growth areas. It is therefore interesting to note that the associated word cloud gives more prominence to research technology heavy words like data visualisation, research data management, computer, and data mining.

The spreadsheet data can be further broken down to tasks mentioned, knowledge and skills mentioned, and abilities mentioned. These reveal a varied landscape. The nature of library work as being closely identified as support work is clearly articulated in the tasks data with the word "support" featuring prominently e.g. support ORCID, support publishing, support open access etc. Likewise, the nature of library work being closely identified as information work is also clearly articulated in the knowledge and skills data with the word "requirements" featuring prominently e.g. knowledge about... copyright requirements, publishing requirements, funder requirements etc.

Due to the prominence of "communication" in the abilities data, a second word cloud is also provided without communication, to better reveal the other abilities and attributes frequently mentioned in the data.
