What is Zotero?

Zotero is a free tool that you use to collect citations, store them in a library and insert them into your essay or thesis quickly and easily. Zotero can harvest information from databases and other webpages at the click of a button, making it easy to store and use a wide variety of information. It allows you to share library content with other users.

The free version of Zotero gives you up to 300mb in library space online. You can purchase more space if needed at a minimal cost.

Zotero works with Firefox, Chrome and Safari web browsers, and is available as a stand-alone desktop tool.

Build a library:

With Zotero you can capture:

  • Bibliographic data from:
    • Online databases
    • Google Scholar
    • Other library catalogues
  • Webpage snapshots

You can also:

  • export bibliographic data from online databases and other reference management software.
  • import files saved as Zotero RDF, BibTeX, RIS, or Refer/BibIX.

Build bibliographies:

With Zotero you can cite references and create bibliographies in MS Word and Open Office using a Zotero word processor toolbar.
