Rockefeller University Press: Read and Publish Agreement

This uncapped agreement includes 3 hybrid journal titles, which allows authors from participating institutions to publish open access with no transactional article processing charges (APCs).

Rockefeller University Press journals publish ground breaking research in the life sciences and biomedicine from leading investigators around the world.

This uncapped agreement covers three hybrid journals during 2023:

  • Journal of Cell Biology (JCB)
  • Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM),and 
  • Journal of General Physiology (JGP)immediately after publication.

Research articles accepted between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024 by corresponding authors within the University of Otago are published Open Access under a CC-BY license and directly deposited to PubMed Central (PMC) and subsequently to Europe PMC.

The agreement covers 100% of research article publication fees and there is no limit to the number of articles that may be published Open Access.

How authors can take advantage of new agreement:

  • The corresponding author must be affiliated with the University of Otago and the author must publish under this affiliation.
  • The article must be accepted between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
  • Authors who publish in RUP journals always retain copyright ownership or have the ability to set the copyright owner as their institutions when required.

Open Access Publishing

  • Eligible Authors may publish their Open Access articles in the licensed material free of Article Publication Charges (APCs)
  • Eligible Authors retain copyright of all versions of their Open Access articles, which are openly licensed for immediate deposit in an open repository or website under the terms of the licence applicable to them

Copyright

  • Eligible Authors retain copyright to their publications and only grant Publisher the non-exclusive right to publish all publications immediately and in the first instance under a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC BY), depending on the licenses made available by the Publisher.
  • Eligible Authors must inform the Publisher of their journal of choice that the Version of Record (VoR) resulting from their submission is to be published as an Open Access Article.
  • Third-party content included in a publication, for example images or graphics, should be clearly labeled and are not affected by these requirements.
  • Nothing in this License shall be taken to restrict, limit or curtail any provisions of the Creative Commons Attribution license used for Open Access Articles
